How to Layer a Turtleneck in the Winter

I love a good turtleneck. So much so that I wish I could wear them year-round (but don’t worry, I’m not insane). I eagerly await the Fall and Winter months when it’s acceptable for me to bust out my assortment, and as I’m sure you can imagine, it’s vast: chunky knits, fitted mock-necks (technically not a turtleneck, but close enough), and ribbed styles are the styles I wear most. While I’m totally an equal turtleneck opportunist, my absolute favorites are tissue-thin styles I can easily tuck into jeans, high-rise pants, and skirts as well as comfortably layer under sweaters, dresses, and shirts sans bulk. I’m also here for a good turtleneck bodysuit; it’s the ultimate piece for achieving a seamless look. To put it simply, what a white t-shirt is to many, a thin turtleneck is to me. An utterly essential basic I can’t live without.

One of my go-to outfit formulas is a thin turtleneck tucked into high-rise jeans with boots in cool weather; it is super flattering, is easy to throw on, and always looks polished, though effortlessly so. But when I need to bundle up a bit more or simply want to experiment with layers, a thin turtleneck can really transform an outfit, even if it’s just barely peeking out from under a cozy knit, button-down shirt, or sweatshirt.

To give you a visual on just how easy layering a turtleneck is, I’ve snapped a few pics detailing three superwearable looks. From a vegan-leather-shirt-and-jeans formula to a double-sweater situation (fear not, I’ll break this down), ahead, my guide to layering a simple turtleneck IRL. While these looks err on the side of minimalist, I promise, the results are anything but boring. The Blue Oxford Shirt Is the Biggest 2020 Trend So Far

Easy to wear is probably one of the most irritating phrases in the whole of fashion (and let’s be honest, there are a lot to get annoyed by). What, exactly, does it mean? Surely all clothes should be easy to wear? That’s the whole damn point of them. As much as it pains me to give these three words justification, here’s how I interpret them: Easy-to-wear clothing is the sort of stuff you don’t have to spend much time thinking about. It’s a wardrobe staple that you’d happily wear whether you’re 15 or 85. There’s little faffing involved. 

Well, prepare to hear the words with more frequency come spring and summer 2020, as that’s exactly what this season is all about. While I love being amazed by innovative and fresh takes on fashion (hello, Richard Quinn and Marc Jacobs), on the whole, there are no huge surprises in store for us. So what can you expect? One of the biggest trends that plenty of buyers and high-street brands have invested in is the simple blue Oxford shirt. Spotted on the runway of minimalist brand par excellence The Row, this shirt is already starting to take off.

CNA Federmoda launches trade show in Toronto

The CNA Federmoda Association union, CNA Federmoda, is bringing a new trade show to Toronto to showcase Italian fashion to the local market.

Dubbed ‘WeLoveModainItaly’, the event taking place on January 28 and 29, 2020, will launch in the Arta Gallery spaces in Toronto’s Distillery District. 

Bringing together Italian manufacturers and brands, fashion buyers, and industry professionals under one roof, WeLoveModainItaly will showcase a selection of fall-winter 2020/2021 collections, including men and women’s apparel, fine leather goods, jewellery and accessories.

Simultaneously, a keynote presentation on the principles of ‘Made in Italy’, and its close connection to sustainability, will be held on Tuesday, January 28. The presentation will equally include opening remarks by Antonio Franceschini, CNA Federmoda National Manager, while president of Consorzio Moda in Italy, Roberto Corbelli will lead further discussion on agenda topics.

“International markets are increasingly asking for products that combine quality and design,” said Marco Landi, president of CNA Federmoda, in a news statement. 

“WeLoveModainItaly will highlight the exquisite craftsmanship, quality and unique production and manufacturing processes with which Italian companies are globally renowned for.”

The CNA Federmoda Association represents approximately 25,000 small-scale manufacturers and other SMEs in the Italian fashion industry, both private-label producers and third-party manufacturers.

The event was launched in partnership with Consorzio Moda in Italy, and with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, as well as the Italian Trade Agency. It is open to all trade professionals and media.
