Be fascinating to watch Bernie beat Trump and become president. Because Bernie's stated policies would undo all the positive economic success of Trump's policies. Then all the American people who voted for Bernie would realize just how bad his policies are. But let's hope that doesn't happen. If the US goes sharp left with Bernie his supporters will try and set up a communist dictatorship and they'll build gulags everywhere and fill them with political dissidents. eg. Trump supporters. I am not even joking. Bernie's campaign said so on Project Veritas.

HOUSTON WEATHER: Near record heat before a stormy cold front blows in this week

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — If you thought it felt warm Tuesday afternoon, just wait until Wednesday afternoon. Chief Meteorologist Travis Herzog says after some morning fog burns off, the temperature will soar to near 90, challenging the record high of 92 from 1986.

After the warm up, another stretch of active, stormy weather is possible starting Thursday afternoon as our next cold front approaches. Travis says that an isolated severe storm with 60 mph winds and quarter-size hail cannot be ruled out, but most of the storms should stay below severe thresholds. This cold front will cool things off going into Easter weekend. It appears more storms are likely Saturday with rain possibly continuing into Easter morning. A stronger cold front arriving right after Easter Sunday could push our low temperatures down into the 40s next week!

Trial of ex-astronaut charged in fatal crash set for June

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — The trial of a former NASA astronaut charged in a car crash that killed two girls in 2016 is now scheduled to begin in June.

Tuscaloosa County Circuit Judge Allen May issued an order Monday setting James Halsell’s reckless murder trial for June 8. In-person courthouse proceedings are shut down statewide because of the new coronavirus, but May entered a written order without a hearing.

SPACE CASE: Woman accuses a NASA officer of hacking her bank account from space station

Halsell had been set to go on trial in May before the pandemic hit.

Halsell, of Huntsville, was arrested after a car crash killed two sisters, 11-year-old Niomi Deona James and 13-year-old Jayla Latrick Parler, nearly four years ago near Tuscaloosa. The girls’ father, who was driving a car that was struck by one driven by Halsell, and a woman were injured.

Authorities contend Halsell, 63, was under the influence of alcohol. The defense blames the wreck on sleeping medication.

Halsell, who is free on bond, flew five shuttle missions before retiring from NASA in 2006 with more than 1,200 hours in space.

Some DJ Screw, Billy Joel, And Phish – Houston Public Media

In recent days, we have been constantly reminded to be socially distant — but not emotionally distant. We have also talked about how music spurs the soul.

So, with that in mind, our own Craig Cohen put out to call to meld those two thoughts into something we asked you and your neighbors to help develop: a Houston Matters Mixtape made up of Houstonians’ favorite songs. And you responded.

We received many replies and for this edition have chosen nine songs to highlight, all of which you can find on Spotify. SHARE YOUR SONG

The Houston Matters Mixtape Vol. 1:

  • DJ Screw & Lil Keke: South Side
  • Billy Joel: You’re Only Human (Second Wind)
  • Chris Whitley: Big Sky County
  • Fun.: Some Nights
  • Bomba Estéreo.: Mar (Lo Que Siento)
  • Jimkata: Ride the Wave
  • Robert Earl: Feelin’ Good Again
  • Phish: Light
  • Simple Minds: Don’t You (Forget About Me)

Our mixtape starts off with some nostalgia. Listener Lilya Keeton chose Southside by DJ Screw & Lil Keke, one of the first nationally recognized Houston rap songs that highlighted our urban culture. The iconicaly slow music production immediately brings Keeton the memories of “candy painted cars on a beautiful Sunday.”

Some songs on the mixtape are more dreamlike and Utopian. Houston Public Media reporter Elizabeth Trovall imagines herself in the Spanish lyrics of the song Mar (Lo Que Siento) by Bomba Estéreo.

Vamos a vivi’ en una casita frente al mar

Cuando sea de noche miraremos la’ estrellas

Vamos a intentar hacer nuestro’ sueños realidad y vivir…

Y ser feliz

(English Translation)

We’re going to live in a little house facing the sea.

When night comes we’ll look to the stars.

We’re going to try to make our dreams reality, live,

And be happy

As some of us struggle with being physically isolated from each other at the moment, it’s no surprise that many of the songs we received were about perseverance and better days to come.

Bradley Gary shared his favorite song, Ride the Wave by Jimkata. Gary chose this song as a way to cope with the sense of danger. He shared this message with his children as a way to keep their heads up even if they are separated from each other. The sharp snare and marching tone of the song invokes a sense of marching on, pushing past these uncertain times towards a shared goal.

You can ride the wave

Past the things you cannot

You cannot ever change

Nothing stays the same

But it’s okay, yea, its okay
